Nestled in the Angus heartland, where mist clings to Station Park’s terraces and the Loons chant in defiance of the wind, Forfar Athletic Football Club is more than a team. It’s a badge of identity. A legacy. A story that’s been unfolding since 1885.
Born from the breakaway ambitions of Angus FC’s second string, Forfar Athletic didn’t take long to make noise—beating Dundee Our Boys in their first-ever fixture and thumping Lindertis 14–1 in 1888, a record that still stands.
Fast forward to 1921, and the Loons joined the Scottish League, enduring early relegation and revival like a tartan phoenix. The post-war era saw grit and resilience, culminating in a golden run during the 1980s—clinching the Second Division title in 1984 and nearly breaching the Premier’s gates just two years later.
They’ve tangoed with giants too. Rangers twice needed replays to oust Forfar in the cups. And who could forget the 2013 League Cup shocker, where the Loons slayed the Ibrox outfit?
Because in Forfar, football isn’t just played—it’s lived.
